    Default 510 Battery questions

    Regarding a pass through, I bought one that came with what looks like an unprotected 10440, 320mAh battery.
    I've read that it is supposed to be 3.7 volts, but my meter reads it at 3.94-3.95 volts (plugged into USB or with full charge unplugged from USB).
    Anyway, I'm wondering what anyone would recommend to replace it with? Can I go let's say a 14500, 900 mAh lithium rechargeable, PROTECTED battery?
    Or should I get the exact same 10440 but Protected?


    Regarding standard 510 portable batteries with l.e.d.s on the end (the basic battery), can anyone link me to a breakdown of it? I want to change the color of the led but I think I'm going to tug too hard when I pop off the clear cover. I also want to know how simple it would be to change the sleeve/shell of the whole thing with another color (in case changing the led turns out not to be a good idea).

    I wouldn't worry too much about it. Your loaded voltage (vaping with atty) is about 3.2V which is a tad higher than the standard Joye batt. Seems Joye throttles their stuff down and I doubt if changing to a larger batt will change the voltage.

    On a side note most regular 3.7V batteries (and Kanger KR808D-1 e cig batts) come off the charger at 4.2V, but when loaded hit about 3.8V. '3.94-3.95 volts' is typical off the charger volts for Joye 510 batts.

    well i guess i'm not too worried about the battery being unprotected, considering it's at the usb end, not next to my face.

    Not a resister per se but some sort of circuit that limits the output for some reason known only by Joye. You could probably mod the PT to take a larger batt, but in the end I'm assuming the output voltage will remain about the same due to the circuit/switch in the main body. If you wanted more oomph out of your PT bypassing the switch assembly would probably make more sense. You've probably read how good The Chuck using a 3.7V battery hits. That's because it's a straight thru shot. It's at about 3.8V under load, compared to a Joye batt at 3.1V.

    If look at POWER (watts/heat)

    3.1V = 4.2W

    3.8V = 6.3W

    That's a nice step up.
