yes should work fine, as long as the batteries are of the same voltage family, just be careful with your spacers.
I have built a few for friends out of the nylon spacers at Home Depot and binding posts also found at home depot.
Find a spacer that the binding post will go through and in the length you need to make up.
Just set them in the positive end and use a rubber band around the entire unit to hold them down.
Then I put the battery in like you normally would.
The rubber band keeps the spacers from lifting up at the point where the battery and spacer meet and the nylon ensures that only the tips of the binding post are exposed so you do not have to worry about anything possibly shorting out the connection.

Thanks I'll give this a try. Got a charger coming but in a pinch right now, this will have to work some how for a couple of days.
