Introducing the Ali'i (pronounced: Ah-lee-e), Polynesian for chief.

Here are some pics from a working prototype, minor changes to fit and finish are what we are working on now and we don't foresee any major changes to the overall design happening after this.

I hope to help you with some answers as I think Kaji is under the weather. I hope he checks in soon to give you exact answers. I am not in any sort of position to speak for him, I just follow his work as I am clearly a big fan of his product. Obviously, I am occasionally in contact with him as I have an early edition 3.7/6V Journeyman, one of the first 5V Journeyman and now in line for the Varivolt Ali'i.

I do not have thefirst edition Ali'i because I am waiting for the new VariVolt version which may launch as early as later this week. I have read, in other Kaji posts, that he was using some sort of retention to hold the doors and is making a change back towards magnets (something along the lines of what worked so well on the Journeyman but redesigned for the Ali'i door alignment).

I suspect it unlikely you will find a used Ali'i as all posts seem to be showing great enthusiasm from new owners. Kaji has been opening up for orders on Fridays and selling out each round of production very quickly. Consistently, he has posted to email him directly.

So, I hope something this post is helpful and I would encourage you to email Kaji directly. His email and on-line contact form are listed under "contact us" on his web page.

i second all of southwest's statements i am a fan as well i have a mid production JM #40 with the 3 mill bottle and also 3.7 or 6v mod and have had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever cant give props to Kaji more then i have and cant wait to afford the Ali'i witch looks awesome.

Oh Varivolt? I have not even hear about that. That could be interesting and definitely worth a wait.
I always liked the looks and craftsmanship involved in making those boxes. But when I say the Ali'i box I realized that I am ready to make a move

Thanks for the compliments, answers to your questions below:

On the Ali'i we use a support and magnet retention system for the doors. Lateral play is supported by wooden and steel inserts that are attached to the spine (main body) that have magnets recessed in them, the doors also have magnets in them that contact the magnets on the spine.

As for availability, we typically open ordering on Fridays at 5p PST, which remains open until we hit our quota (usually in about 20 mins), while we realize this is not ideal, but we have to limit the weekly orders to ensure we are not getting to far behind and making people wait while we have their money. But we do allow for email orders when out of stock, what this does is put you in queue for the next run, once we are ready to start processing your order, we send you a email invoice with payment instructions and boxes will be done 2-3 weeks at most from this point.

This mod looks so gorgeous, I hate waiting(glad to be on the wait list though), I can't wait to get mine and show it off to vapors at work. Some of the tube mods get me strange looks, I'm sure I'll get looks from the Ali but they'll be looks of admiration!
